Generose Kokugonza Tabaro is a seasoned banking professional with an impressive 38-year career at the Bank of Tanzania, culminating in her retirement from public service. Her extensive experience encompasses pivotal roles, including Arusha Branch Director, Senior Advisor, and Manager for National Payment Systems (NPS) Oversight and Policy.
Generose's career is marked by her strategic acumen in formulating and implementing financial and payment systems standards, policies, and regulations. Her profound understanding of corporate governance practices and regulations has been instrumental in shaping effective governance frameworks and aligning corporate strategies with organizational missions.
As Senior Advisor, Generose played a key part in devising NPS strategies and policies, while her tenure as Manager NPS saw her at the forefront of developing and reviewing payment system standards and regulatory compliance. Her expertise in risk assessment within business systems and payment frameworks underscores her capacity to drive both operational excellence and long-term strategic growth.
Her early career included progressive roles as Bank officer and internal auditor, providing her with a well-rounded perspective on banking operations and systems management.
Generose holds a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Strathclyde UK, a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management, and an Advanced Diploma in Banking. She is also a Financial Inclusion Fellow from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, Massachusetts USA.
Her contributions to the field include authoring documents and tutoring trainings on payment systems and financial inclusion. She is a member of the Internet Society (ISOC) and member of Internet Governance Tanzania Chapter. She is also a Director at the Bahari Eagles Foundation.
